On Friday we found a NAKED hermit crab! It wasn't gross. We had to find it a
home. So we found a bunch of beautiful shells. :( He didn't take any, so daddy
just put a giant shell on him. We waited, found a few more shells took off the
shell and hoped that he had just crawled in to it, he didn't. Then the moment
came when he would crawl in to a shell, it wasn't a shell we gave him. It was a tiny shell that he could barely fit
his butt in to! But he gave up on that shell (thank good-ness!) Then we were
looking for a shell that he first tried to get in to. Next mamma threw a shell
that was just as bad as the first one he crawled into, and actually went in it!
It was one of the shells are coned, but it was broken around the edges. He
stayed in that shell until Nolan tried to give him a different one but he got
scared and ran out of the one he was in. Finally, after the horrible things
that this stupid hermit crab did, we found him a super nice sand cone shell. He
took it as his new home.
On Sunday, when I was at the Kadena Marina, me and Nolan were swimming out to an island that was not that far out. We were about to come in and i thought to myself that I swam faster underwater. Right as I went down, I saw what looked like a good sized sea urchin. I was about to just swim over it, but then I realized that it was really a LIONFISH! I knew that Nolan hadn't seen one yet, so I stayed right over it and called him over. He took the goggles and looked down. When he bobbed his head up, he said that he didn't see it. So I put on my goggles and he got his friends, and I pointed to the lionfish. He went down to see a better look at it, and was amazed when he came back up. When we got home, I looked in the fish book, to see if I could find the lionfish that I saw. I'm still checking on the one page of lionfish.

Wow what an adventure! Glad you did not step on any of his spines. That would have hurt more than the sting ray. That crab was sure lucky to have you find him a new home.

Oh my gosh, Kat, what adventures you have under the sea! I can't wait for Gpa and I to get out there to see all the beautiful creatures in the waters off Okinawa. And a lionfish??? How many people go scuba diving and never see one of those. You know how Nolan had a log book of animals he saw on hikes, well, you should have one to keep track of the creatures you see in the ocean. Miss you a lot KitKat and hope to talk to you soon.
